New Jersey defies federal ban on team sports betting

In the USA, gambling on team sports is now legal in five states. But until last week, so far the only other state that really matters was Nevada. This fall, New Jersey will become the second significant state to allow betting on team sports. After the measure passed in the New Jersey state legislature at a better than 2-1 clip, the governor of NJ, Chris Christie had this to say,

“If someone wants to stop us, let them try to stop us.”

The governor is confident that NJ will be the second significant state to legalize this type of wager. The governor had more to say, “Am I expecting there will be legal action to try to prevent us, yes, but I have every confidence that we are going to be successful”.

As we roll into the 2012 NFL season, Atlantic City will have the sports books in place to allow the city to finally become -- “Las Vegas - East Coast”.

The sports books have been the missing variable in that equation for Atlantic City. This fall, the solution has finally arrived in New Jersey. No more red-eye flights across the country for New York City residents to wager on the big sporting events, just a short drive down the New Jersey Turnpike instead.

You can bet that the odds makers in Vegas are betting against this one!
